Types of Dentures We Offer

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper jaw, the lower jaw, or both.

• Conventional dentures are made and placed after any remaining teeth have been removed and the gums have healed, which can take several months.
• Immediate dentures are placed the same day your remaining teeth are removed, so you never have to go without teeth. As your gums heal and shrink, they’ll need to be relined for a good fit.
• Overdentures fit over a few retained tooth roots or dental implants. Keeping roots or placing implants helps preserve the jawbone and makes the denture more stable.

Removable Partial Dentures

Partial dentures replace some missing teeth and rely on your remaining natural teeth for support. The replacement teeth sit on a gum-colored base, which may have a metal framework with clasps that attach to your natural teeth, or more discreet connectors. Precision attachments are the most natural-looking option because they have no visible clasps, but they usually require crowns on the neighboring teeth, which adds to the cost.

What to Expect When Getting Dentures

1. Consultation and exam. We’ll examine your mouth, take x-rays, talk about your goals, and recommend the type of denture that fits your needs and budget.
2. Impressions and measurements. We take detailed impressions of your mouth and record how your jaws line up, so your dentures fit and bite correctly.
3. Try-in. You’ll try a model of your dentures so we can check the fit, color, and shape before the final set is made.
4. Final fitting. We place your new dentures and make any adjustments needed for comfort.
5. Follow-up visits. Sore spots are common at first. We’ll see you for adjustments as your mouth gets used to your new teeth.

Adjusting to New Dentures

• Clean them daily. Brush your dentures every day with a soft brush and a non-abrasive denture cleaner, not regular toothpaste, which can scratch them.
• Take them out at night. Removing your dentures while you sleep gives your gums a chance to rest. Keep them moist in water or a denture-soaking solution so they don’t dry out and lose their shape.
• Avoid hot water. It can warp dentures.
• Handle them carefully. Hold them over a folded towel or a sink of water, so they won’t break if you drop them.
• Keep up with checkups. Even with no natural teeth, regular visits let us check your gums, the fit of your dentures, and screen for oral cancer.
